White lies: As we know it
WHITE LIES: As we know it presents the work of artists and activists from diverse backgrounds who explore a 'rewriting' of colonial history in their work.
The exhibition features video works that document the 2003 Invasion Day protests (Goori2), Amharic street markings by artist Abyss, drawings by Texta Queen and a reconstruction of the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Podium by Roberta Joy Rich.
Also featured are videos by Project Yarnin' sharing the stories of Elders Uncle Lenny Clarke, Aunty Lorna Walker, Aunty Ruth Murray, and Aunty Rae and Uncle Albert Mullet. Yarnin' is a training and recording program that documents Aboriginal Elders stories while simultaneously training Aboriginal youth in the art of film making. Yarnin’ was conceived by Bobby Nicholls, Rebecca McLean and John Harding in conjunction with Open Channel.
Public programs included Dr. Gary Foley, youth drawing workshops, and film screenings with Project Yarnin's Uncle Robert Nicholls. WHITE LIES: As we know it explores instances of reclamation and empowerment, aiming to redress the balance of power that drives our historical narratives.
